A family struggles to come together in the wake of their matriarch’s untimely death, but her magic remains…and so does her beloved plant, which refuses to die in her absence. As each character digs deeper into grief, will love be enough to pull them out? BENEATH THIS EARTH explores intergenerational trauma, forgiveness, and asks the question: does my grief make me unloveable?

A Portuguese immigrant comes to America with her American-Dream-obsessed husband, and her dead child, who she firmly believes is still alive. When she meets a talking whale at the pier, she is forced to confront her grief in unexpected ways. Will she and her husband come together, or will she drift out to sea?
BEFORE WE WERE (3W, 2M)
Reuniting with her mother after several years apart, Ava moves back home to New York City. As she works on her documentary film, the line between past and present blurs, and Ava befriends her mother’s late friend, Jared, who died due to AIDS related complications in the 90’s. Oscillating between 1990 Jared becomes increasingly corporeal, and he and Ava develop a bond across temporal boundaries.
